On the GET Baltic natural gas exchange operating in the Baltic States and Finland, gas averaged 39.40 EUR per megawatt-hour (EUR/MWh) in April. This is 8% lower than in March, when the average gas price was EUR 42.83/MWh.

Similar price level was observed in all GET Baltic market areas. In the Lithuanian market area, the average gas price in April was 39.91 EUR/MWh or 8% lower than in March. In the common Latvian-Estonian market area, the gas price also decreased by 8% to 38.58 EUR/MWh, while in Finland the average price was 39.25 EUR/MWh. Individual prices on the exchange fluctuated very slightly in April, ranging from 35.58 to 45.64 EUR/MWh.

Although the heating season is over, the market demand for natural gas for electricity generation remained, which is why gas trading on the exchange continued to be active in April. Last month, as much as 1.1 TWh of gas was traded on the exchange, an unusually high result for this time of year,” says Karolis Bagdonas, Senior Key Account Manager at GET Baltic.

The Lithuanian market area accounted for the largest share of gas purchases, accounting for more than half of the total volume, or 622 GWh (56%), the common Latvian-Estonian market area accounted for 307 GWh (28% of the total volume) and Finland 174 GWh (16% of the total volume). There were 61 participants actively placing orders on the exchange.
