Recordbreaking month: 3,990 transactions concluded and 1.3 TWh of gas traded

At the end of the first month of the year, the exchange marked record-breaking 3,990 transactions concluded and 1.3 TWh of natural gas traded. All volume was traded on the daily market. Compared to the previous month, the number of transactions increased by 21% (3,296 in December 2023) and the traded volume grew by 29% (1 TWh in December 2023). The largest increase in trading volume was recorded for the 5th of January delivery, when 108 GWh of gas were traded. This is the highest volume traded for a single day’s delivery in the history of the GET Baltic exchange.

In January, 60 participants actively traded gas on the exchange, the same number of active participants comparing to last year. This reflects the stability of the market and is an indication of the Exchange’s consistent performance and maturity.

The value of the Baltic-Finnish Natural Gas Price Index BGSI decreased by 5% compared to the previous month from 43.53 EUR/MWh to 41.46 EUR/MWh. However, at the end of the month, the BGSI was forming around 35 EUR/MWh. In January, the BGSI decreased to 33.69 EUR/MWh (↓15%) in the Lithuanian marketplace, to 30.80 EUR/MWh (↓14%) in the Latvian-Estonian marketplace and increased to 64.41 EUR/MWh (↑9%) in Finland. Individual transaction prices ranged from 25.73 EUR/MWh to 100.00 EUR/MWh. The volume of submitted orders in January amounted to 6 TWh for purchases and 8 TWh for sales.
