Record volumes of gas traded on the exchange for April delivery
In April, 3,298 transactions were concluded on the GET Baltic exchange, representing a record 1.1 TWh of natural gas for April delivery (March: 866 GWh). One fifth (224 GWh) of the total traded volume was cross-border (ICA). In April, more than half of the total volume traded was purchased in the Lithuanian market area – 622 GWh (56% of the total), 307 GWh (28% of the total) in the common Latvian-Estonian market area and 174 GWh (16% of the total) in Finland. 61 participants actively placed orders on the exchange.
In April, the Baltic-Finnish Gas Spot Index (BGSI), which captures changes in natural gas prices on the daily market, stood at 39.40 EUR/MWh, which is 8% lower than in March (42.83 EUR/MWh). The BGSI decreased evenly by 8% in April in all market areas: in the Lithuanian market area to 39.91 EUR/MWh, in the common Latvian-Estonian market area to 38.58 EUR/MWh and in the Finnish market area to 39.25 EUR/MWh. Individual transaction prices on the exchange in April ranged from EUR 35.58/MWh to EUR 45.64/MWh.
