In August, the price of gas on the GET Baltic exchange fell by 9%

On the GET Baltic natural gas exchange, operating in the Baltic States and Finland, the average gas price in August was 36.80 euros per megawatt-hour (EUR/MWh), or 9 percent lower than in July, when the average gas price stood at 40.62 EUR/MWh. In August last year, the gas price on the exchange was 42.45 EUR/MWh, 13 percent higher compared to August 2025.

In the last month of summer, compared to July, the gas price in the Lithuanian market area fell by 13% to 36.33 EUR/MWh. In the common Latvian–Estonian market area, the gas price decreased by 5% to 36.76 EUR/MWh, while in Finland it also declined by 5% to 37.29 EUR/MWh. Gas prices in individual transactions during August ranged from 31 to 50 EUR/MWh.

“On September 9, GET Baltic gas exchange participants will begin trading on the European Energy Exchange (EEX) trading platform. Together with the market participants we are prepared for this transition. The additional EEX product portfolio will include short-term and long-term gas trading products for Lithuania, the common Latvian–Estonian market area, and Finland. EEX will also offer the opportunity to trade location spreads between these markets and selected liquid European gas markets already available on EEX. All new product transactions will be cleared by by the group company European Commodity Clearing (ECC),” says Giedrė Kurmė, CEO of GET Baltic.

In August, 607 GWh of natural gas were traded on the GET Baltic exchange (in July – 593 GWh). More than one-third of the total traded volume, or 228 GWh, was purchased in the Lithuanian market area. In the common Latvian–Estonian market area, 186 GWh were traded, while in Finland the volume reached 194 GWh. A total of 55 exchange participants actively placed orders on the exchange, concluding nearly 2.7 thousand transactions.
